Vinyl and toothbrushes

Hello again,
Went to my old school's fete the other day and found some cool stuff.
Got me a whole lot of vinyl records cause they are really good for making things with.
Here is one idea:

Vinyl Bowl
Take your vinyl record and an ovenproof bowl or dish the shape you want
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F
Cover a baking sheet with foil and put your dish on top
Put the record on the top of the dish (lying flat)
Put this in the oven for 2-3 minutes, or until the record starts to sink slightly into the dish
Take out the tray and push the record down into the dish with your hand (wear gloves!)
Take out the record when it is cool.

This will give you a bowl with wavy edges, and the label at the bottom.
Beware - if using for food, the label will get dirty, and there is the hole at the bottom, so you may want to line it with something.
I have a little one made from one of the 45's which i use to hold my jewellery bits and bobs.

Another idea involving making something out of a melted something else is Toothbrush Bangles.

Toothbrush Bangles
Find some old toothbrushes; the best kind is the single colour, clear kind. The ones with glitter in them look really pretty - our dentist gives them to us for free :)
Get some pliers and pull out all the bristles. This is the hardest part, it takes ages and after a while your hands get tired.
Once this is done, put the toothbrush into a pot of boiling water, make it a big one - you want the whole thing submerged.
Make sure you wear rubber gloves, and find two pairs of tongs.
After about 30 seconds to a minute, it should be soft (this depends on the type of toothbrush, it may take longer) and pliable. Bend the plastic with the tongs until it is the shape of a bangle, but leave a gap between the two ends, so you can slide it over your wrist.
Take it out of the water and put it in some cold water to set it.
If it isn't right, just put it back in the hot water and try again.

Enjoy :)

It's about time I updated this...

G'day folks, figured i'd get off my lazy bum and post another post on this thing.
Lately I've been busy with uni work, but still finding a little bit of spare time for some knitting and crochet (like during lectures *ahem*).
I have just started knitting lately - I started really trying in May. Now i have a beanie, a pair of gloves, a tiny soft toy ghost, a jumper and my first pair of socks.
I am currently working on my projects for the Royal Melbourne Show; a nicer pair of socks and a tea cozy. I'm having to work really hard at them cause i've only started one sock and they are due in 2 weeks!
I'm also finishing a crochet wip as a pressie fo
r my friend at uni for her 21st. I started it around last year and have to finish that quick smart too - for next weekend :P It's a small bag with the anarchy A on the front :)
Anyway, i should get back to those pressing projects, so i'll leave you with another awesome link.

This one is for a certain someone who happens to love zombies. Now we can all crochet/knit/bead/cross stitch our love for them with this awesome chart from the great people over at Anticraft.

Amigurumi Gir

A pattern for an amigurumi Gir from Invader Zim!
There are 3 types to make: evil, normal and doggy suit.
Why not make all 3?

(warning, takes a while to load)

Breaking Dawn

Upon the release of the new Stephanie Meyer book, Breaking Dawn, I thought it was appropriate to share with everyone this pattern I found for knitted socks.
They have a ribbon pattern running down them based on the cover of Eclipse.

(ok, so i screwed something up here, but the link seems to be somewhere below this post)

Oh look! A blog!

Wow, that was spur of the moment!
I am a self confessed nerd who loves to craft.
So I decided to make a blog (like so many others out there) to compile all of my geekery related craft for everyone out there. I have found loads of sites in this wide internet we have, and have some of my own projects to offer as inspiration.
These include knitting, crochet, sewing, beading, cross stitch, charts, and loads of other cool stuff.
If you have something you think is awesome, email me and I might post it :)
I'm up for all things geeky/nerdy/punky like gaming stuff, maths, science, internet jokes, cult tv shows and the purely random and funky.
I also have a gallery at deviantart (lillythepink57) which has some of my stuff on it too :)
I think thats it for now, time to figure out what i have to do to this thing next!
:D
